Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection and Travelex Insurance Services have partnered to provide innovative travel protection plans to travel providers and their clients. We have transitioned BHTP partners to Travelex so they can sell Travelex travel insurance products.

Why did BHTP partner with Travelex?

The Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) and Travelex Insurance Services (Travelex) partnership joins these two travel insurance industry leaders, bringing together the financial strength, product underwriting, and superior claims handling of BHTP with the extensive sales and marketing expertise and vast, long-standing travel provider network of Travelex. Together we will deliver innovative travel protection plans with the exceptional service our clients have come to expect.

How does this partnership affect me/my agency?

As we announced in November, 2018, most of our current travel insurance partners transitioned to Travelex and are no longer able to offer our plans. Any BHTP travel partners currently offering BHTP plans will no longer be able to offer any BHTP insurance plans effective January 1, 2019.

There have been no changes to the way you currently log in to view and edit existing travel insurance policies and claims in Agent Portal. Understanding that many of your customers have BHTP-insured trips booked into 2019 and beyond, we want to make sure you have access to the tools you need in Agent Portal to manage those policies.

Who is my account representative and how can I get their contact information?

Can I still offer BHTP plans to my clients?

We are working through transitioning our remaining account relationships to Travelex. Under the terms of the partnership agreement with Travelex, effective January 1, 2019 all BHTP travel insurance partners are no longer able to offer our plans.

If you do not already have an agreement with Travelex, you will be assisted in transitioning to Travelex and be available to sell their Travel Basic and Travel Select travel insurance plans which are underwritten by BHTP’s underwriter Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSIC). A representative from Travelex will contact you shortly for a seamless transition. If you already have an agreement with Travelex, there is nothing more you need to do.

What travel insurance plans will I be able to offer my clients?

Effective January 1, 2019, BHTP partners will no longer be able to offer any of our plans. However, through our partnership with Travelex, their Travel Basic and Travel Select travel insurance plans will be available for you to offer. If you do not already have an agreement with Travelex, you will be assisted in transitioning to Travelex and be available to sell their plans which are underwritten by BHTP’s underwriter Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSIC).

A representative from Travelex will contact you shortly for a seamless transition. If you already have an agreement with Travelex, there is nothing more you need to do.

When is the hard date of when I can no longer sell BHTP?

Your Travelex regional sales manager will contact you to introduce themselves and facilitate the contracting and appointment process to offer Travelex travel insurance plans underwritten by Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. Your regional sales manager will also schedule plan training to finalize the transition. If this did not occur, please contact Travelex directly.

What does this mean for my Agent Portal account?

There have been no changes to the way you currently log in to view and edit travel insurance policies and claims in Agent Portal. Understanding that many of your customers have BHTP-insured trips booked into 2019 and beyond, we want to make sure you have access to the tools you need in Agent Portal to manage those policies. However, you will no longer have the ability to quote and offer BHTP plans via our portal.

 

What does this mean for policies I have in the future – covering trips in 2019 and beyond?

There will be no changes to the way you currently log in to view and edit travel insurance policies and claims in Agent Portal. Understanding that many of your customers have BHTP-insured trips booked into 2019 and beyond, we want to make sure you have access to the tools you need in Agent Portal to manage those policies. If you have questions regarding existing policies, please direct them to travelsales@bhspecialty.com or call 844-411-2837.

I previously booked a BHTP policy for a client with upcoming travel. If they have a claim, who will be handling it?

Nothing will change with how claims are administered for BHTP policies or how they are submitted. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance will continue to process all BHTP travel insurance claims, regardless of when they were purchased or a traveler’s travel dates. We recommend having your customers file their own claims. If your client insists that you file the claim, please have their travel, policy and contact information available when you initiate the claim.
